Data Scientist

Alec McCarthy is a Data Scientist who works within the Global development practice area. Mr. McCarthy assists with cleaining, visiualizing, and summarizing survey data sets using R, STATA, and ARC GIS.

Previously, he contributed to improving meningitis outbreak risk prediction in Africa for the Meningitis Early Warning System and modernizing data processesing tasks at the Centers for Disease Control. While working with The Carter Center as a Technical Advisor, he developed and managed field operations in Chad to improve the efficiency of guinea worm eradication efforts. He has also served as a Peace Corps Community Health volunteer, facilitating and implementing HIV/AIDS, malaria, and nutrition campaigns in resource-limited settings.

Mr. McCarthy holds a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health and Epidemiology from Emory University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Boston University.
