National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day 2024

National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day 2024

On National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day we remember people who have died while experiencing homelessness. In the heart of the holiday season, Cloudburst takes a moment to pause and reflect on the significance of this day, observed annually on December 21st.   We acknowledge the lives lost to the sometimes harsh realities of homelessness and acknowledge their untold stories.

Over the past year, homelessness has increased by over 12 percent as reflected in *HUD’s Annual Point in Time Count. 653,104 people experienced homelessness on a single night in January 2023. At Cloudburst, our Homeless Assistance and Housing and Community Development teams are committed to preventing and ending homelessness by improving homeless response systems. Cloudburst’s commitment to decreasing homelessness in our work with communities is data-driven and focused on eliminating systemic barriers to access and reducing racial and other disparities in housing outcomes. Cloudburst’s work with communities is guided by members of our team, many with lived experience with unsheltered homelessness, rural homelessness, homelessness prevention, and housing and shelter responses following disasters.

On this National Homeless Persons Memorial Day in 2024, we encourage attendance at one of the hundreds of in person or virtual Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day events across the nation.  We thank our team and those who work in homeless response systems and housing development for their dedication and commitment to preventing and ending homelessness.
