The Environmental Protection Agency, with the United Nations’ support, designated August as National Water Quality month in 2005 to foster public conversation about how to ensure households and communities have access to clean and safe drinking water for generations to come. As we lean into September water quality remains a critical issue for us all—locally, nationally, and globally. One facet of safeguarding households’ and communities’ access to clean drinking water is maintaining compliance to environmental impact laws at the local, state, and national levels.
In collaboration with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Office of Environment and Energy, the Cloudburst Group helps grantees across the country obtain and maintain compliance with each environmental impact law through the preparation of HUD Part 58 environmental reviews; development of environmental compliance operation procedures and manuals; development of HUD training and online resources that provide guidance on each of the water elements, as well as daily on-call technical assistance to state and local communities.
As environmental compliance experts, Cloudburst’s work also includes international programming focused on environmental impact assessments that promote climate mitigation and adaptation in response to climate change. These efforts enforce the importance of ensuring that indigenous, vulnerable, and marginalized populations and communities are prioritized in efforts to advance access to safe drinking water.
Nearly 20 years since National Water Quality month began, Cloudburst continues its tireless domestic and international work to ensure households and communities have access to clean water around the globe.
